PETITIONS

The following petitions, lodged with the Clerk by the Senators indicated, were received: Senator Dame Margaret Guilfoyle, from 8422 citizens of Australia praying that the Senate ensure that family allowances are increased in the 1982 Budget to amounts equal to their 1976 real value, that such allowances are indexed thereafter, and that a homemakers' allowance is introduced.

Senator Foreman, from 22 citizens of Australia praying that the Family Law Act and the Marriage Act be amended to strengthen the institution of marriage.

Senator Primmer, from 142 citizens of Australia praying that the Government increase pensions and benefits to at least thirty per cent of the national average weekly male earnings, remove the means and income tests for pensioner health benefits, re-introduce Medibank, and provide $200 million for State housing authorities.

Senator Thomas, from 241 citizens of Australia praying that an Australian passport be issued to Mary Woodrow.

Senator Teague, from 46 citizens of Australia praying that the Senate ensure that the Government continue to employ Miss Joan Fry as Early Childhood Consultant and Assistant Secretary to the Educational Planning Group, Department of Education.

Senator Ryan, from 141 citizens of Australia praying that the recommendations of the Review of Children's Services Program be rejected, that the Government reverse decisions to reject 500 applications for funding under the Child Care Act 1972, and that the Government respond favourably to the expressed desires of parents for the provision of community-based child care centres.
