The Minister for Social Security (Senator Chaney) moved-That this Bill be now read a second time.

Senator Walsh moved an amendment, viz: At end of motion, add '', but the Senate notes that any defeat of the measure would require the Commonwealth to forego approximately $160 million this financial year to the Australian oil producers, and condemns the Prime Minister for not honouring his election undertaking to commit any additional oil levy revenue to tax cuts and family allowances''.

Debate ensued.
