NOTICES OF MOTION

Notices of Motion were given, as follows-

Senator Missen: That, on the next day of sitting, he would move-That the Senate directs that, except in respect of second reading speeches introducing Bills, statements made by Senators when tabling reports, statements by Chairmen on behalf of Committees, and other speeches, explanations or statements where leave of the Senate is specifically given, the Presiding Officer in the Senate hereafter shall strictly enforce Standing Order 406 to ensure that no Senator shall read his speech and so that proper and effective debate will be maintained in this Chamber.

Senator Jessop: That, on the next day of sitting, he would move-That the Senate- (a) applauds the city councils of Whyalla, Port Augusta and Port Pirie in recognising the need for economic development in South Australia, in particular their action in passing resolutions supporting the development of the Olympic Dam project;

(b) notes that the State Australian Labor Party Opposition is adopting an anti- development stance in opposing the Roxby Downs Indentures Bill; and

(c) urges the State Australian Labor Party to acknowledge the resolutions that have been passed in these three significant industrial cities and calls upon it to support passage of the Roxby Downs Indentures Bill so that the development may proceed.

Senator McLaren: That (contingent upon the President proceeding to the Placing of Business on any day) he would move-That so much of the Standing Orders be suspended as would prevent Senator McLaren moving a motion to give precedence of all other General Business to the General Business Order of the Day relating to low interest Commonwealth home loans granted to two Cabinet Ministers.
