NOTICES OF MOTION

The Leader of the Opposition in the Senate (Senator Button) gave Notices of Motion, as follows:

No. 1-That, on the next day of sitting, he would move-That the Senate-

(a) expresses its alarm at the continuing drop in the standard of living of Australians; and

(b) notes-

(i) that the latest assessment of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development placed Australia 15th out of 24 countries in terms of gross domestic product;

(ii) the fact that in 1976 Australia occupied 8th place in this table;

(iii) that countries which out-rated Australia included Iceland, France, Belgium and Finland.

No. 2-That, on the next day of sitting, he would move-That the Senate expresses its concern at the Government's lack of a coherent policy to encourage solar power, wind power and other alternative sources of power.
