PETITIONS

The following petitions, presented by the Senators indicated, were received and read:

Senator Sibraa, from 23 citizens of Australia praying that the Government not legislate for any plant variety rights system which gives exclusive ownership rights over seeds to individuals, organisations or enterprises.

Senator Gietzelt, from 29 citizens of Australia praying that the Government reject any proposal to establish plant breeders' rights in Australia.

Senator Keeffe, from 54 citizens of Australia praying that the Government undertake to provide information relating to, and carry out a cost-benefit analysis of, proposals to grant plant variety rights.

Senator McLaren, from 10 citizens of South Australia praying that the Government extend the generous terms of the Commonwealth Home Loan granted to a Minister to the thousands of young couples suffering undue hardship because of high interest rates.

Senator Coleman, from 22 citizens of Australia praying that the Defence Service Homes Act be amended to enable all ex-servicewomen who served Australia during World War II to qualify for Defence Service Home Loans.

The following petitions, lodged with the Clerk by the Senators indicated, were received:

Senators McLaren and Bolkus, from 163 and 211 citizens of Australia, respectively, praying that the Family Law Act and the Marriage Act be amended to strengthen the institution of marriage.
