DISCUSSION OF MATTER OF PUBLIC IMPORTANCE

The President informed the Senate that Senator Gietzelt had proposed that a matter of public importance be submitted to the Senate for discussion, viz: '' The critical situation in the home building industry as a consequence of the Government's economic policies''.

And at least four Senators having risen in support of the proposed discussion- Suspension of Standing Orders: The Leader of the Government in the Senate ( Senator Sir John Carrick) moved-That so much of the Standing Orders be suspended as would prevent the discussion of the matter of public importance being postponed till 2.15 p.m. this day, unless otherwise ordered.
