CONSTITUTION ALTERATION (FIXED TERM PARLIAMENTS) BILL 1981

Senator Evans, pursuant to Notice of Motion not objected to as a Formal Motion, moved--That leave be given to introduce a Bill for an Act to alter the Constitution in relation to the duration of the House of Representatives, the holding of elections for the Senate and House of Representatives, disagreement between the Houses with respect to proposed laws and the appointment, and the termination of the appointment, of Ministers of State, to be cited as the Constitution Alteration (Fixed Term Parliaments) 1981.

Question--put and passed.

Bill presented, and on the motion of Senator Evans read a first time.

Senator Evans, by leave, moved--That this Bill be now read a second time.

Debate ensued.

Ordered--That the debate be adjourned till the next day of sitting, and that Senator Lewis have leave to continue his speech on the resumption of the debate.
