PETITIONS

The following petitions, presented by the Senators indicated, were received and read:

Senators Childs and Hearn, from 46 and 62 citizens of Australia, respectively, praying that the Government prevent any downgrading of postal services to the citizens of Australia.

Senator Coleman, from 26 citizens of Australia praying that the Government provide sufficient funds for State education systems to ensure the maintenance of the current high quality of education.

Senator Coleman, from 33 citizens of Australia praying that the Parliament not ratify Australian military participation in the proposed Sinai Peacekeeping Force unless it is controlled by the United Nations.

Senator Hearn, from 45 citizens of Australia praying that the Government urge the Government of the United States of America to cease immediately all military aid to the Government of El Salvador.

The following petitions, lodged with the Clerk by the Senators indicated, were received:

Senators Baume and Jessop, from 45 and 101 citizens of Australia, respectively, praying that the Government increase pensions and benefits to at least thirty per cent of the national weekly male earnings; remove the means and income tests for pensioner health benefits; re-introduce Medibank; and provide $200 million for State housing authorities.

Senator Ryan, from 32 citizens of Australia praying that the Senate take action to halt the mining, milling and export of Australian uranium.

Senator Baume, from 181 citizens of Australia praying that the Government prevent the downgrading or closure of a certain New South Wales post office.

Senator Jessop, from 51 citizens of Australia praying that the Senate support or initiate a Federal inquiry into proposed development in South West Tasmania, and not allow funds to be allocated for the construction of dams in that region.

Senator Colston, from 59 citizens of Australia praying that the Government refuse export permits covering mineral sands mined on Moreton Island.
