STANDING ORDERS--STANDING COMMITTEE--1ST REPORT OF 60TH SESSION

The Senate, according to Order, resolved itself into Committee for the consideration of the first Report of the Standing Orders Committee for the Sixtieth Session.

In the Committee

Ordered--That the Items of the Report be considered separately.

Item 1 (Membership of the Committee)--

The Minister for Aboriginal Affairs (Senator Baume) moved--That the proposed amendment to Standing Order 33 be agreed to.

Debate ensued.

Question--put and passed.

Item 2 (Deputy-President)

Senator Baume moved--That the proposed amendments to Standing Orders, as contained in Appendix B to the Report, be agreed to.

Debate ensued.

Question--put and passed.

Item 3 (Consideration of Government Reports)

Senator Baume moved--That the proposed Sessional Order, as contained in Appendix C to the Report, be adopted.

Debate ensued.

Question--put and passed.

Resolutions to be reported.

The Acting Deputy-President (Senator Bonner) resumed the Chair; and the Chairman of Committees (Senator McClelland) reported that the Committee had considered the First Report of the Standing Orders Committee for the Sixtieth Session and had resolved that--

(1) The amendments to the Standing Orders proposed in Items (1) and (2) be agreed to.

(2) The Sessional Order proposed in Item (3) be adopted.

On the motion of Senator Baume the Report from the Committee of the Whole was adopted.
