PETITIONS

The following petitions, presented by the Senators indicated, were received and read:

Senator Lajovic, from 23 citizens of Australia praying that the Government provide funds for the preservation of South West Tasmania but not for development works such as dams or roads.

Senator Childs, from 71 citizens of Australia praying that the Government act to prevent any downgrading of postal services to the citizens of Australia.

Senator Grimes, from 696 citizens of Australia praying that the Government act to prevent the closure of Aspect House, a facility for handicapped children in New Town, Tasmania.

Senator Lajovic, from 13 citizens of Australia praying that the Senate make use of its constitutional and legislative powers to grant full land rights and self-management to the Aboriginal people of Queensland.

The following petitions, lodged with the Clerk by the Senators indicated, were received :

Senator Siddons, from 98 citizens of Australia praying that the Senate reject the application of sales tax to a wide range of basic consumer items.

Senator Coates, from 426 citizens of Australia, similar in wording to the petition presented by Senator Grimes, relating to the closure of Aspect House.

The following petitions, not in conformity with the Standing Orders, were, by leave, presented by the Senator indicated and received:

Senator Grimes, from 183 citizens of Australia praying that pensions be increased by fifty per cent.

Senator Grimes, from 551 citizens of Australia praying that the Senate re-introduce a system of health care based on access by medical need and ability to pay.
