PETITIONS

The following petitions, presented by the Senators indicated, were received and read:

Senator Jones, from 244 citizens of Australia praying that the Senate call upon the Government to declare a moratorium on the introduction of fees at the Repatriation General Hospital, Greenslopes, Queensland.

Senator Childs, from 44 citizens of Australia praying that the Government provide funds for the preservation of South West Tasmania but not for development works such as dams or roads.

The following petitions, lodged with the Clerk by the Senators indicated, were received:

Senators Robertson, Baume, Carrick, Scott and Robert Ray, from 21, 138, 28, 153 and 52 citizens of Australia, respectively, similar in wording to the petition presented by Senator Childs.

Senator Chaney, from 500 citizens of Australia praying that the Senate ensure the continuation of the Family Support Programme in Victoria.

Senator Evans, from 16 citizens of Australia praying that legislation be passed to eliminate discrimination in all areas under Commonwealth jurisdiction.

Senator Lewis, from 59 citizens of Australia praying that the Parliament take immediate and positive action to avert further poverty in the community by raising the level of all pensions and benefits and reconsidering recent decisions concerning the health system and cuts to Commonwealth activity.

Senator Dame Margaret Guilfoyle, from 15 citizens of Australia praying that legislation be passed to eliminate discrimination in all areas of Commonwealth employment and in the payment of unemployment benefits.

Senator Scott, from 75 citizens of Australia praying that the Government reverse its decision on the funding of women's refuges, rape crisis centres and women's health centres, concentrate the administration of women's services within one department, guarantee triennial funding and increase funds for existing services.

Senator Baume, from 10 citizens of Australia praying that the Government seek the wishes of the people in determining the advisability of returning to Australia's pre-1966 restrictive immigration policy.
