3       Committee—Proposed Leave to Meet During Sitting

The Clerk informed the Senate that, pursuant to standing order 33(5), a notice had been received proposing that the Legal and Constitutional Affairs References Committee be authorised to hold a private meeting otherwise than in accordance with standing order 33(1) during the sitting of the Senate today, from 3.40 pm, for the committee’s inquiry into the regional processing centres in the Republic of Nauru and Papua New Guinea.

Statements by leave : The Minister for Communications (Senator Fifield) and Senators Siewert, McEwen, Bushby and Moore, by leave, made statements relating to the matter.

Leave was granted for the matter to be postponed till a later hour ( see entry no. 8 ).
