Senator BOB BROWN (Tasmania—Leader of the Australian Greens) (16:41): Mr Deputy President, I seek leave to amend motion No. 544 in the terms circulated in the chamber.
Leave not granted.
The DEPUTY PRESIDENT: Senator Brown, leave has not been granted. Do you still wish to proceed with your motion?
Senator BOB BROWN: In the event of leave not being granted by the opposition, yes, I do. I ask that general business notice of motion No. 544 be taken as formal.
The DEPUTY PRESIDENT: Is there any objection to this motion being taken as formal?
Senator Abetz: Yes.
The DEPUTY PRESIDENT: Leave is not granted, Senator Brown.
Senator BOB BROWN: Mr Deputy President, during the course of the debate earlier, Senator Macdonald said that I had come in here to break the law. You ruled that was in order, but I ask you to take that Hansard to the President for his determination on the matter.
The DEPUTY PRESIDENT: I shall do so. If the President deems it fit to come back and report to the Senate, he will.
