Senator ABETZ (Special Minister of State) (10:26 AM) —I thank all senators, including those opposite and the Democrats, for their contribution to the debate on the New International Tax Arrangements (Managed Funds and Other Measures) Bill 2004. I also thank Senator Fifield for his contribution, but I must take issue with him on one very important point. I think this is very exciting legislation, and the measures in this bill are in fact another exciting instalment in the package of international tax reforms being rolled out by this government. Having said that and having listened closely to Senator Fifield’s speech, I think he has canvassed all the matters I was going to canvass in my summing-up speech, so there is no need for me to say anything further, other than to invite anybody who wants to find out what the government’s position on this bill is to read Senator Fifield’s excellent speech. I commend the bill to the Senate.

Question agreed to.

Bill read a second time.
