Senator GREIG (10:53 AM) —Opposition amendment (5) also relates to the record of a closed hearing. It simply provides that the court may make such a record or part of such a record available to the public, provided that it does not prejudice national security. Ensuring that criminal trials are open to the public is an important aspect of our legal system which helps to promote accountability, fairness and confidence in the criminal justice system. This is therefore an important amendment and we will support it.
