Senator HILL (Minister for Defence) (6:21 PM) —The government oppose the amendment. It is our view, as I have said before, that the provisions of the agreement fully protect the PBS, Australia's environmental and health laws, our ability to ensure local content on our media and our quarantine arrangements. Nothing in the legislation before the parliament in any way adversely affects Australia's interests in these areas. The obligation on both sides is to implement the agreement in good faith. We believe this amendment is not only unnecessary but would also call into question Australia's commitment to implement the agreement in good faith.
