Senator SHERRY (6:17 PM) —I will just indicate to Senator Brown that we do take amendments seriously. We do listen to the debate and the arguments that are put forward. I can inform you that on this occasion we will not be supporting your amendment. You have made some comments about the protections necessary in respect of the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme, amongst other comments. There are other matters you touched on. The Labor Party have outlined the amendments we will be progressing to in respect of protecting the PBS, the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme, and ensuring we continue to maintain access to pharmaceutical benefits at affordable prices so that we have the continuation and delivery of cheaper medicines. We believe the amendments that Labor will move at a later time will be adequate and clear in respect of the protections that are necessary in this area. Therefore, we will not be supporting the Greens' amendment on this occasion.
