Senator FAULKNER (Leader of the Opposition in the Senate) (12:06 PM) —I think there is absolutely no reason why the procedural statement cannot address the question of legal aid. There is certainly no reason why that cannot occur. It is also important that senators remember that, under the opposition's proposals, you would certainly have consultation with the joint parliamentary committee on the statement of procedures. Of course, the statement of procedures would be tabled in parliament and be a disallowable instrument. In the view of the opposition, this is one of those areas that we believe the statement of procedures should address. Unless this committee determines to ensure that that is the case, I think Senator Nettle can be absolutely confident that it will not be the case.
