Senator PATTERSON (Minister for Health and Ageing) (6:57 PM) —I would like to defer consideration of this. I know it is going to fit outside the arrangements but we have done it once before for Senator Murphy and I would like time to think through and read the Scrutiny of Bills Committee report, which I have not had time to do. That is not saying that I will concede anything, but I would like time to read it. I have a great regard for those two committees, one of which is the most powerful committee in the place—though those in the other house do not realise that. The Scrutiny of Bills Committee has a long record and I would like to look at that report. There may be an alternative but overnight I will have a look at that and when we resume in the morning we can deal with this amendment.
