Senator PATTERSON (Minister for Health and Ageing) (10:49 PM) —I make the comment that there are a number of acts that operate in parallel with this act. I have referred to the industrial relations act and legislation about unfair dismissal. There are other acts which run in parallel. We do not always refer to the acts in the current legislation. I think I would agree with Senator Stott Despoja: if Senator Murphy has an amendment, we should have the amendment and we should debate it. Otherwise, it will become totally unruly with everyone jumping up asking questions about various clauses. We have a program before us. We have now had five committee hearings and we have had umpteen hours of debate. If we are going to do it in an orderly way, we should at least have an amendment before us so we can actually systematically go through it.
