The PRESIDENT (4:20 PM) —I too am privileged to have met the late Gordon Davidson CBE on several occasions. As has been said, he visited Parliament House from time to time after completing his distinguished career in the Senate. I saw him on more than one occasion and shared a meal with him in the members dining room. He maintained a very keen interest in current affairs and in the workings of the Senate and was always a great champion of the Senate's role. I have written to his widow, Patricia, offering my condolences and those of all honourable senators. I would ask honourable senators to stand in silence to signify their assent to the motion.

Question agreed to, honourable senators standing in their places.
