Senator LUDWIG (Manager of Opposition Business in the Senate) (9:34 AM) —by leave—I have some comments in relation to this matter which may assist the Senate. The opposition's position in relation to the motion, given that it is a notice of motion only, is that it will have the opportunity to consider its position in relation to the hours proposed by the Manager of Government Business in the Senate. We do have sufficient time to be able to at least consider it before we next meet on 2 December. Given that we were told only last night that there would be a motion in relation to the hours of sitting—we were not told the specificity in relation to what the motion would be—and given that it is only a notice of motion, we are now in a position to at least have some time to consider what our reaction will be to the request for the hours of meeting as proposed in the notice of motion.
