The DEPUTY PRESIDENT —The President has received a letter from Senator Patterson proposing that a definite matter of public importance be submitted to the Senate for discussion, namely:

  The Government's continued failure to understand the needs of older Australians in a rapidly ageing population and its failure to implement appropriate policy responses, specifically to address the residential, home and community care and respite care needs of people suffering with dementia and their carers.

I call upon those senators who approve of the proposed discussion to rise in their places.
