Senator Newman asked the Minister for Primary Industries and Energy, upon notice, on 25 August 1994:

  (1) What was the department's total expenditure on assertiveness training courses during the 1993-94 financial year.

  (2) How many: (a) women; and (b) men, attended those courses.

  (3) What other personal development courses have been utilised by the department in the 1993-94 financial year.

  (4) For each of those courses, how many: (a) women; and (b) men, attended those courses.

  (5) What was the department's total expenditure on each of these courses for the 1993-94 financial year.


Senator Collins —The Minister for Primary Industries and Energy has provided the following answer to the honourable senator's question:

  (1) During the 1993-94 financial year the department spent $1914.00 on assertiveness training courses. Assertiveness training is supported in the context of development of employment related skills.

  (2) (a) Eleven women attended those courses. (b) Five men attended those courses.

  (3) During the 1993-94 financial year no personal development courses have been utilised. The department's training effort is directed towards the development of work-based skills. Personal development may well occur as a secondary outcome of participating in training and development activities.

  (4) Numbers of men and women attending personal development courses is nil.

  (5) Nil expenditure has occurred over the 1993-94 financial year on personal development Courses.
