Senator CHAMARETTE —I give notice that, on the next day of sitting, I shall move:

  That the Senate—

  (a)notes that:

(i)Federal Cabinet is expected to decide the fate of proposed mining and exploration in Queensland's Shoalwater Bay when the Minister for the Environment, Sport and Territories (Senator Faulkner) and the Minister for Defence (Senator Ray) present a joint submission on the Government's response to the recommendations of a commission of inquiry that defence activities be allowed to continue but exploration and mining be banned, and

(ii)the year-long commission of inquiry found that Shoalwater Bay has outstanding natural and cultural values; and

(b)calls on the Federal Cabinet to refuse to permit any activities which are inconsistent with the protection of the natural and cultural values of Shoalwater Bay.
