(Question No. 1506)

Senator Calvert asked the Minister for Defence, upon notice, on 29 June 1994:

  (1) Why was a spa bath supplied to the Base Administrative Support Centre, Puckapunyal, Q Store.

  (2) Was the total cost of the spa bath $6 640; if not, what was the total cost of the spa bath, including installation, etcetera.

  (3) Where is the spa bath situated.

  (4) Who will be using the spa bath.

  (5) What is the purpose of supplying a spa bath at Puckapunyal.

Senator Robert Ray —The answer to the honourable senator's question is as follows:

  (1) The Base Administrative Support Centre, Puckapunyal fosters the Army Ski Lodge at Mount Buller. The spa bath was purchased by the support centre on behalf of the lodge. The lodge is owned by the Army Amenities Fund and operates using non-public funds. The lodge will reimburse the support centre the full cost of the spa bath.

  (2) The cost of the spa bath was $6 640 which included $120 for water treatment chemicals. There were no installation or other costs.

  (3) The spa bath is situated at the Army Ski Lodge, Goal Post Road, Mt Buller.

  (4) The spa bath will be used by Australian Defence Force personnel, civilian employees of the Department of Defence and their dependants.

  (5) The purpose of supplying the spa bath is to enhance the facilities of the lodge.
