Senator Calvert asked the Minister representing the Minister for Administrative Services, upon notice, on 16 March 1994:

  (1) What type of marketing was purchased by Asset Services, Strategic Management Branch, for $147,000.

  (2) Was this the total cost; if not, what was the total cost.

  (3) What were the target groups of this marketing.

  (4) Has the department any indication if the marketing was successful; if so, what are these indications.

  (5) What has been the cost of marketing for the department as a whole in the 1991-92 and 1992-93 financial years and the 1993-94 financial year to date, including forward plans for marketing.


Senator McMullan —The Minister for Administrative Services has provided the following answer to the honourable senator's question:

  (1) The marketing consultancy assisted Asset Services in the development of a methodology for regaining customers (lost since Asset Services was untied) and maintaining the existing customer base; in the provision of assistance in presentations; and in the improvement of systematic management tools within the business.

  (2) Yes.

  (3) The primary target group was Commonwealth departments and agencies.

  (4) Yes. Asset Services has maintained its customer base and has regained some that were lost.
