Senator BOLKUS (Minister for Immigration and Ethnic Affairs and Minister Assisting the Prime Minister for Multicultural Affairs) (12.03 p.m.) —The issue that we really are addressing is one that goes towards the commissioner accepting process issued by an Australian court or a person who is a participant. That is the major objective. I am informed that the AFP does it as a matter of practice now anyway. We think that fundamental objective is covered to the extent that I just spelt out. We could take on board Senator Spindler's amendments and give them some consideration but not take them at this stage as being part of the government's legislation. We will not accept them by way of an amendment, but we will keep them on the table for consideration.
