(Question No. 1460)

Senator Campbell asked the Minister for Veterans' Affairs, upon notice, on 7 June 1994:

  (1) How many square metres of office space are either leased, owned or occupied by the department and its agencies.

  (2) What is the breakdown by State or Territory, and by department and agency, by State and Territory.

  (3) How many department and agency employees occupy the office space.

  (4) What is the breakdown by State and Territory, and by department and agency, by State and Territory.

  (5) Does the department lease or own any office space which is not currently occupied by staff; if

so please supply details of: (a) whether the office space is leased or owned; (b) whether it leased/owned by the department or one of its agencies; (c) how many square metres are involved and the location of the office space (please specify whether details of these office space properties are included in the answers to any of the above questions).

Senator Faulkner —The Minister for Veterans' Affairs has provided the following answer to the honourable senator's question:

  (1) Excluding the Department's health institutions and the Australian War Memorial, the Department of Veterans' Affairs occupies 65,987 square metres for office accommodation, 8,052 square metres for special purpose client contact and statutory requirements accommodation and 2,686 square metres for dedicated offsite file storage, all of which is leasehold.

  (2) The following breakdown is provided:

  (5) Yes. The Department has one small lease at 170 Little Mallop Street, Geelong. In answer to the specific issues raised above, the following information is provided:

  (a) leased;

  (b) leased to the Commonwealth; and

  (c) 50 square metres at Geelong.

  This space is not included in the answers to the other questions above.
