Senator BOLKUS (Minister for Immigration and Ethnic Affairs and Minister Assisting the Prime Minister for Multicultural Affairs) (6.49 p.m.) —The government opposes these amendments on the basis that any witness in the program is still bound by any orders made under the Family Law Act. The act already has enforcement procedures, including imprisonment for failure to comply with orders made under its provisions. In addition, clause 7(2)(o) requires the applicant to disclose custody and access orders, whilst clause 9(2)(e) requires the memorandum of understanding to set out the outstanding legal or other obligations.
