Senator Calvert asked the Minister representing the Minister for Transport, upon notice, on 7 June 1994:

  (1) What advertising was purchased from Mojo Australia Pty Ltd, by Corporate Management, Legal and General, at a cost of $200,000 in March 1994.

  (2) Of what departmental promotion was this advertising a part.

  (3) What other costs were incurred through this promotion.

  (4) What type of promotion products were used by the department in this promotion.

  (5) What were the costs of these promotional products.

  (6) Where was this promotion based.

  (7) What is the outline of the promotion.


Senator Collins —The Minister for Transport has provided the following answer to the honourable senator's question:

  (1) Corporate Management, Legal and General, raised an order for $200,000 on behalf of the Federal Office of Road Safety for the purchase of television advertising. The actual cost was $149,245.51.

  (2) & (7) The promotion consisted of a television commercial to remind drivers of the dangers of driving while tired. It was played on non-

metropolitan television stations nationally during the four week period immediately prior to Easter, traditionally a time of increased long distance travel over a short period of time.

  (3) None.

  (4) A thirty second television commercial.

  (5) The television commercial cost $117,845 to produce and was incurred in the 1991/92 financial year.

  (6) Non-metropolitan television stations across Australia.
