Senator LEES (Deputy Leader of the Australian Democrats) (11.03 a.m.) —This has been on the agenda for some three or 3 1/2 years. I discussed it at length yesterday and again this morning with Senator Boswell because the National Party—the Liberal Party has already indicated its interest—is also interested in pursuing this further. Therefore this morning I moved that this matter be referred to the Standing Committee on Rural and Regional Affairs. Hopefully, we can look at both the effect of the current assets test and the effect that these specific amendments would have on rural families. Once the rural and regional affairs committee has completed its current reference on the rural adjustment scheme, I hope it will be able to take up this reference in the next session.
