Senator SANDY MACDONALD —I give notice that, on the next day of sitting, I shall move:

  That the Senate notes that—

  (a)the Newspoll in the Australian newspaper of 29 June 1994 confirmed that 74 per cent of Australians have no wish to change our national anthem;

  (b)the suggestion that we should contemplate changing our national anthem is just another example of the Labor Government encouraging change to our flag and our constitution;

  (c)this continued tampering with our national symbols and identity must cease for all our sakes; and

  (b)if these divisive and unnecessary debates continue Australia will become a laughing stock on the world stage.
