Senator CROWLEY (Minister for Family Services) (4.52 p.m.) —It sounds such an innocent question. The question of job creation and job availability in this country is a mixed and vexed one. There is no doubt that there are people of all ages, and particularly people in certain parts of Australia—regional Australia and so on—who have less access to jobs. But the fact that some people are having difficulty finding employment does not mean that we should set aside our intent to increase prospects for all citizens. As I say, we cannot look at this without looking at it as part of a package of this government's commitment to and concern for not only women but also employment prospects, recovery, better training and so on. I do not believe anything is gained in waiting.
