Senator HARRADINE (9.58 p.m.) —I would like to speak to the motion. As I understand it, this is a procedural motion that is required having regard to the apparent agreement that the adjournment was to be negatived; in other words, we are going on after half past 10 for the purpose of dealing with certain legislation. I want to make it perfectly clear that that was advised to me. As I see this motion, it is a procedural motion necessary by virtue of the fact that papers have to be considered at some stage of the game.

Of course, I will be voting against the motion because it is, in effect, a motion to negative the adjournment until these matters are fixed up. I was advised of this motion, but I would like to advise the Senate not to expect me to vote to go after half past 10. But if people have agreed to go past half past 10, then what the minister is doing is just a procedural motion to allow that to take place.

  Question resolved in the affirmative.

  Consideration resumed.
