Senator SPINDLER —I give notice that, on the next day of sitting, I shall move:

  That the Senate—

  (a)notes that, according to the recent report by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade on United States trade barriers affecting Australian exports, Australian exports to the United States (US) were valued at $A4.92 billion while Australian imports from the US stood at $A13.01 billion and that accordingly the imbalance of trade between Australia and the US is over two to one in favour of the US and that it is Australia's highest bilateral trade deficit;

  (b)condemns the negligence of the Government in ignoring the continuing protection of primary producers and the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade violations by the US, while Australian farmers continue to be disadvantaged in the world market;

  (c)notes that the Uruguay Round outcome will alleviate to some extent the market access problems Australia's farmers face, but that these improvements will be minor and will be delayed until 1996; and

  (d)calls on the Government to assist Australian farmers and people living and working in regional Australia until the US and other countries match Australia's reductions in trade barriers.
