Senator Calvert asked the Minister for Defence, upon notice, on 6 June 1994:

  (1) How many folding leg tables were purchased for $134 810 by the Materiel Management Division, Combat Supplies Branch in April 1994.

  (2) Where are these tables being put to use.

  (3) What distinguishing or special features do these tables have that make them appropriate for use in the Defence Forces.

  (4) Are the tables Australian made; if not, why not.

  (5) Was this purchase put to tender; if not, how was it arranged.


Senator Robert Ray —The answer to the honourable senator's question is as follows:

  (1) 650

  (2) For use in the field environment.

  (3) They are a robust table manufactured utilising Australian hardwoods and waterproof ply to withstand field service conditions.

  (4) Yes.

  (5) Yes.
