Senator MICHAEL BAUME —I give notice that, on the next day of sitting, I shall move:

  That the Senate—

  (a)notes that:

(i)a spokesman for the Prime Minister (Mr Keating) is quoted by the Australian Associated Press in the week beginning 19 June 1994 as alleging that, on the subject of the Prime Minister's former piggery, Senator Baume `has been wrong on this subject for about a year almost daily in the Senate',

(ii)Senator Baume's revelations, which eventually resulted in the Prime Minister having to dispose of his half-ownership of his piggery group, have been from official documents of the Australian Securities Commission, which have revealed continual breaches of the corporations legislation, and from various state instrumentalities, and

(iii)no documentary evidence has ever been provided by the Prime Minister or his spokesman to disprove any information emerging from these official sources that Senator Baume has brought to the Senate's attention; and

(b)calls on the Prime Minister to end his repeated and totally false allegations, through his spokesman, that Senator Baume's piggery revelations are wrong, and to put a stop to this unsubstantiated campaign of personal denigration of Senator Baume, particularly the disgraceful allegations that Senator Baume is in the gutter on this matter, aimed at diminishing the impact of factual information that has raised serious questions about the propriety of the Prime Minister's ill-advised piggery investment.
