(Question No. 653)

Senator Campbell asked the Minister representing the Minister for Administrative Services, upon notice, on 5 October 1993:

  (1) Please provide a breakdown by department and agency of how many square metres of office space is either leased or owned by the department and its agencies in each State and Territory.

  (2) Please provide a breakdown by department and agency of how many department and agency employees occupy the space in each State and Territory.

Senator McMullan —The Minister for Administrative Services has advised that the

answer to the honourable senator's question is as shown in the table below:

  The extraction of the more detailed information required by this question has led to some refinement and correction of the information provided in response to Question on Notice No 148 (Hansard 31 August 1993 page 691). The definition of "office space" used is that contained in the Commonwealth Office Accommodation Guidelines 1986: service and special purpose areas, including laboratories, repositories, workshops, storage and similar function areas have not been included. There are also some corrections in the staff numbers—longer term temporary employees are now included; employees such as tradepersons are not included and some omissions from the earlier advice have been corrected.
