Senator CHAMARETTE —I give notice that, on the next day of sitting, I shall move:

  That the Senate—

  (a)notes that:

    (i)the newly formed Territory Greens fielded their first candidates in the Northern Territory election on 4 June 1994 and that they received a very respectable 10.2 and 6.9 per cent of the vote in the two electorates where they ran, and

    (ii)this vote bears out the view that there is a significant and growing part of the population which is deeply concerned about the lack of attention being given to environmental and social justice issues; and

  (b)congratulates the Territory Greens for challenging the current political agenda by causing the Country Liberal Party and the Australian Labor Party to address many environmental and social issues during the Northern Territory election.
