Senator ABETZ —Mr Acting Deputy President, I seek leave to make a personal explanation under standing order 190.

  Leave granted.

Senator ABETZ —During his speech, Senator Cook made the assertion that I had made certain comments under parliamentary privilege about Mr Donald, a director of CSIRO. I can assure the minister that those comments have previously been made in public and I have simply repeated them in the chamber today. Therefore, any assertion that I had sought to use the benefit of parliamentary privilege to attack somebody is completely refuted. If the minister had been following the CSIRO debate to its fullest, he would have known that those comments were put on the public record approximately six or seven days ago and therefore he would not have made that silly statement.
