Senator MICHAEL BAUME —I give notice that, on the next day of sitting, I shall move:

  That the Senate—

(a)notes that Mr Paul Palmer, who is listed in the 1993-94 administrative services staffing list as an electorate officer grade 2 in the office of the Labor Member for Macarthur (Mr Haviland), in the week beginning 29 May 1994, pleaded guilty in the NSW District Court to two counts of supplying a prohibited drug, namely lysergic acid (LSD), and two counts of possession of a prohibited drug, has made full admissions and is presently on bail awaiting sentencing; and

  (b)calls on:

(i)Mr Haviland to reveal to the Parliament whether he had any knowledge or indication of these illegal activities of his staff member and very close associate, Mr Palmer, and

(ii)the Minister for Administrative Services (Mr Walker) to take appropriate measures to ensure that electorate offices of Members of Parliament are not used as centres for trading in prohibited drugs.
