(Question No. 1401)


Senator Calvert asked the President of the Senate, upon notice, on 20 May 1994:

  (1) What is the cost of the new video on Parliament currently being produced.

  (2) What were the costs of the previous two videos which were produced.

  (3) Over what length of time will the video be produced.

  (4) Will the video be distributed.

  (5) Will there be a cost for the video to the general public; if so, what will this cost be.

  (6) When will the video be available.


The President —The answer to the honourable senator's question is as follows:

  (1) $147,000.

  (2) $97,870 for the 1989 video. The video was updated in 1990 at a cost of $31,723.

  (3) Work commenced on the production of the video in April 1994 and is expected to be completed by mid September 1994.

  (4) A free distribution list will be finalised by the time the video is completed. The PEO intends that the bulk of the videos will be sold.

  (5) The cost of the video to the public will be below the rates normally charged but no figure has yet been set. The cost to schools will be lower than that for the general public.

  (6) Mid October 1994.
