Senator McGauran asked the Minister for Primary Industries and Energy, upon notice, on 3 February 1994:

  What commissioned surveys or other research, subsequent to the May 1993 study of Solutions Research, has been carried out by the department or the Australian Bureau of Agricultural and Resource Economics into the perceptions of farmers as to whether they will remain as active participants in the farm sector and in each case: (a) who conducted the research; (b) what was the date of the study; (c) what was the sample size in each State; (d) what were the major findings; (e) if externally conducted, what was the cost of the study; (f) has the research been published; if so where has it been published; if not to which individuals or bodies has it been released; (g) please provide a copy of each study.


Senator Collins —The answer to the honourable senator's question is as follows:

  (a)—(g) The Department of Primary Industries and Energy commissioned no surveys or other research subsequent to the May 1993 study of Solutions Research, into the perceptions of farmers as to whether they will remain as active participants in the farm sector.
