Senator CHAMARETTE —I give notice that, on the next day of sitting, I shall move:

  That the Senate—

  (a)commends the Australian Broadcasting Corporation for its `Lateline' program on 31 May 1994 on the topic of Australia's foreign aid policy;

  (b)condemns:

    (i)the Government for its diminishing commitment to increasing foreign aid to 0.4 per cent of gross domestic product by 1996 and to the eventual target, set by the Overseas Economic Community Development, of 0.75 per cent, and

    (ii)the increasing proportion of trade-related aid which benefits Australia, rather than aid directed at poverty alleviation and humanitarian aid through non-government organisations; and

  (c)calls on the Government:

    (i)to move the development import finance facility to the trade portfolio where it would be far more appropriately situated, and

    (ii)to immediately renew its commitment to the level and quality of foreign aid provided by Australia.
