Senator SHORT —In accordance with Senate procedural order No. 15, I ask Senator Bolkus as the minister who was then representing the Minister for Administrative Services, to explain why he has not provided an answer to my question of 24 March 1994, which he took on notice, in which I asked him to make a full investigation into the reasons for the non-disclosure by the due date required by law in any of the Labor Party's returns to the Commonwealth Electoral Commission of donations of $2,420 to the Australian Labor Party member, the honourable member for Calwell and Parliamentary Secretary, Dr Theophanous, from the Chinese student human rights organisation in January 1993.

Senator BOLKUS —I can answer that question. As I said to Senator Short earlier, I told him I would pass on the question to the Minister for Administrative Services, as well as the Commonwealth Electoral Commission, for them to provide a full answer to him. I understand the Department of Administrative Services is preparing that answer. I do not know what the time lag involved has been since it went from one minister to another.

Senator Short —It is more than two months since I asked it.

Senator BOLKUS —I gather there will be an answer to the question this afternoon, so we will not have to wait for too long.
