Senator BOLKUS (Minister for Immigration and Ethnic Affairs and Minister Assisting the Prime Minister for Multicultural Affairs) —On 4 March 1994, Senator Ian Macdonald asked the Minister for Industry Technology and Regional Development a question on notice. I have that answer today and seek leave to have it incorporated in Hansard.

  Senator Macdonald asked the Minister for Industry, Technology and Regional Development, upon notice, on 4 March 1994:

  With reference to the answer to question on notice no. 880 (Senate Hansard, 23 February 1994, page 1020):

  (1) Why is the Kelty report into regional development not included in the answer.

  (2) What was the cost of the Kelty report, including fees and expenses payable, including travel expenses paid to each member of the Task Force and support staff, and other costs associated with the Task Force.

  (3) Apart from those mentioned in the answer, are there any other inquiries, task forces or other investigations of this nature into regional development policy.

Senator Bolkus —The Minister for Housing and Regional Development has provided the following answer to the honourable senator's question:

  (1) The Taskforce on Regional Development was neither a consultancy nor a special study.

  (2) The accounts for the Taskforce on Regional Development are still being finalised. The budgeted cost was $900,000. When the accounts are finalised, the final cost will be advised.
