Senator SCHACHT (Minister for Small Business, Customs and Construction) (4.44 p.m.)
—I table the explanatory memorandum and move:
That this bill be now read a second time.
I seek leave to have the second reading speech incorporated in Hansard.
Leave granted.
The speech read as follows—
Mr President, this bill repeals provisions in the Australian Trade Commission Act 1985 which impose age restrictions on the appointment of part time members to the board of the Australian Trade Commission.
This bill will permit appointment of part time members to the board who are over the age of 65 years or for a term that would expire after the member attains the age of 65 years.
The bill will have no financial impact.
I commend this bill to honourable Senators.
I present the explanatory memorandum to this bill.
Debate (on motion by Senator Panizza) adjourned.
