Senator BOLKUS (Minister for Immigration and Ethnic Affairs and Minister Assisting the Prime Minister for Multicultural Affairs) (10.21 a.m.) —What we have here is a conflict of policy rather than anything that goes to finetuning the legislation.


Senator Spindler —I agree with the objective.


Senator BOLKUS —Senator Spindler might agree with the objective, but we disagree about how that objective can be reached. My advice is that Senator Spindler has not listened to what I have said in the preceding discussion. I think Senator Spindler understands the position that I am trying to put; I understand the position that he is trying to put. But we cannot, to use a colloquial expression, do a deal on this.
