Senator BELL —I give notice that, on the next day of sitting, I shall move:

  That the Senate—

  (a)congratulates the Launceston City Council for conducting a survey of its residents to determine their attitude towards collecting recyclable domestic waste at the kerbside;

  (b)notes:

    (i)that the survey reveals that 92 per cent of the residents would use a kerbside recycling service if it were available, and

    (ii)with surprise, that the Launceston City Council intends to ignore the overwhelming message of its own survey which supports the findings of a similar survey conducted by the Australian Democrats almost 2 years ago; and

  (c)suggests to the Launceston City Council that the $60 000 it intends to spend on an education program would be better spent on an implementation program because the residents have proven that they already appreciate the economic, social and environmental benefits of recycling.
